Thanks to the international mobility opportunities offered by the Cesare Alfieri School of Political Science, PIM students can spend periods of study, traineeship and research abroad at partner universities, institutions and organisations, enriching their educational path in an international and interdisciplinary dimension.
Below are some of the main international mobility opportunities.
Erasmus+ Study
Erasmus+ Study allows university students to spend a study period abroad at a partner university, continuing their academic path with recognition of the exams taken.
The call for applications for Erasmus+ Study is published annually on the University website’s study mobility page in January/February, and departures refer to the academic year following the publication of the call.
More information is available here.
Erasmus+ Traineeship
Within the framework of the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, Erasmus+ Traineeship allows students to carry out a traineeship abroad for a period of 2 to 12 months with public or private organisations in one of the countries participating in the Programme.
The call for applications is published annually in the international mobility section of the University website, usually in February/March. The 2026/2027 call is available here.
The list of foreign destinations is available on the dedicated page of the Turul platform.
More information on Erasmus+ Traineeship is also available here.
In addition to traditional Erasmus+ mobility programmes, students enrolled in the Master’s Degree Programme in Political Science can participate in Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), international programmes funded by the European Union under Erasmus+.
BIPs combine a period of physical mobility at a partner university—generally lasting between 5 and 30 days—with online learning and collaborative activities held before and/or after the stay abroad. This format allows students to work in international groups, engage with students and lecturers from different European countries, develop transferable skills and obtain recognition of the ECTS credits included in their study plan.
The programmes address topics of particular relevance to contemporary political and social debate through innovative teaching methods that combine lectures, workshops, group work and project-based activities.
Successful applicants may receive recognition of 3 ECTS credits as part of courses taught by the academic staff coordinating the programmes.
First Call for Applications for 2026/2027
The first BIP call for applications focused on “The Contemporary Far-Right Parties: Towards a Political ‘Normalization’?” and was hosted by Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
The programme examined the evolution of far-right parties in contemporary Europe, analysing their development, political strategies and processes of normalisation within European democratic systems. It included international teaching activities, group work and opportunities for discussion with students from the partner universities. The application deadline was in July 2026. The University of Florence coordinator is Professor Sorina Soare.
Second Call for Applications (Forthcoming)
During the 2026/2027 academic year, the University of Florence’s Department of Political and Social Sciences will also organise the international BIP “Counter-Populism Lab: Audiovisual and Interactive Formats to Strengthen Youth Democratic Resilience in Europe”, in partnership with the University of Granada, Spain, and ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal.
The programme addresses populism, disinformation and contemporary political communication, with particular attention to strategies for strengthening democratic resilience among young people. Through an interdisciplinary approach combining political science, communication and digital media, students will work in international groups to analyse populist discourse and develop audiovisual and interactive tools designed to counter disinformation.
The programme will consist of two phases: April 2027: online teaching activities and workshops; May 2027: in-person mobility at the University of Florence, including an intensive week of lectures, workshops and international group work.
Applications will open in autumn 2026, with selection taking place during the same period. Further information about the call and the application procedure will be published on this page and on the University website. The University of Florence coordinator is Professor Giorgia Bulli.
